2008 CATANA 50 – VÉRITÉ
Catamaran
Overview
Owner’s Version | Carbon Mast | Daggerboards | Serious Bluewater Performance
There are cruising catamarans, and then there are Catanas.
Designed by Christophe Barreau and built in France, the Catana 50 is a genuine performance cruising catamaran, combining the sailing characteristics sought by experienced multihull sailors with the accommodation, comfort and self-sufficiency required for extended offshore cruising.
VÉRITÉ is a 2008 three-cabin Owner’s Version, featuring a carbon mast, daggerboards, twin aft helm stations and an extensive cruising inventory. She has travelled internationally, cruised the waters of Southeast Asia and Australia’s east coast, and is equipped for owners who want to venture well beyond the usual coastal cruising grounds.
Designed to Sail
The Catana 50’s performance pedigree is evident throughout her design.
Her daggerboards provide improved windward performance while allowing access to shallower anchorages when raised. The carbon mast reduces weight aloft, while the twin aft helms and twin mainsheet arrangement provide excellent sail control and visibility.
Her sail inventory includes a Hydranet mainsail, self-tacking headsail, furling genoa, screecher and additional downwind sails.
For offshore passages, VÉRITÉ has the added advantage of a custom-built enclosed starboard helm shelter, providing welcome protection from wind, rain and spray while maintaining access to the sailing controls.
This is a catamaran built for sailors who enjoy the passage as much as the destination.
A Comfortable Home on the Water
VÉRITÉ’s desirable three-cabin Owner’s Version layout offers generous private accommodation, a spacious saloon, practical galley and comfortable living areas.
The interior presents well and has been thoughtfully equipped for extended cruising.
One of the Catana 50’s clever design features is the pair of convertible cockpit daybeds. Integrated into the side decks, the hinged panels fold outward to create comfortable reclining backrests, transforming the seating into two generous, cushioned lounging areas. Perfect for stretching out with a book, enjoying the breeze or simply relaxing at anchor.
VÉRITÉ also features an enormous custom foredeck shade enclosure, extending from the headsail area back towards the mast and daggerboards. Constructed predominantly from UV-resistant mesh, it creates another wonderfully cool outdoor living space, ideal for tropical cruising.
Extensive cockpit covers, clears and weather protection provide further versatility in different conditions.
With air conditioning, refrigeration and freezer capacity, electric cooking appliances, watermaking capability and substantial onboard storage, VÉRITÉ is equipped for comfortable life aboard.
Equipped for Extended Cruising
VÉRITÉ carries a substantial inventory of equipment for offshore sailing and independent cruising, including:
- Twin Volvo Penta 75hp diesel engines with saildrives

- High-capacity watermaker
- Air conditioning

Her 12V, 110V and 220V electrical arrangements reflect her international cruising background. Australian-style power outlets are not fitted, and adapters are used onboard.
International Cruising History
Originally launched in France in 2008, VÉRITÉ has enjoyed an extensive cruising life.
Her current owner purchased her in Phuket, Thailand, in 2021, subsequently cruising Southeast Asian waters before bringing her to Australia in 2022. She has since explored the Queensland coast, including the Whitsundays.
Australian import taxes have been paid, with supporting documentation available.
Her owner is keen to see VÉRITÉ pass into the hands of another enthusiastic custodian and is willing to provide a comprehensive handover to assist the next owners in becoming familiar with her systems and equipment.
For suitably qualified overseas purchasers, an initial video inspection and discussion with the owner can also be arranged.
Presentation and Inspections
VÉRITÉ is currently ashore at The Boat Works, Coomera, on the Gold Coast.
Her standing rigging is understood to be original, with an updated rigging assessment and replacement quotation being arranged.
The installed LPG cooking and BBQ equipment is not certified for Queensland use and is disconnected. Electric cooking appliances are available onboard.
A previous survey and further details of her equipment, maintenance and cruising history can be made available to genuine purchasers.
VÉRITÉ represents an opportunity to acquire a respected French performance cruising catamaran with the desirable Owner’s Version layout, a substantial cruising inventory and a proven history of offshore voyaging.
For those seeking a capable bluewater catamaran that rewards active sailing while providing a comfortable home afloat, VÉRITÉ deserves consideration.
Inspection strictly by appointment.
